New Adventures

Another successful meeting today at the fire station. Today’s meeting had pizza, pigs and Chakra balancing.  We had two hot-seat speeches by JP and Tom (thanks for stepping up). Word-of-the-day was Klazomaniac.  Congratulations to Mandi for her first-time as table topics master.  Special thanks to our toastmaster Kristin. Melinda, we will miss you.

Congratulations Steve!

Steve won SECOND PLACE at the Area Speech Contest on March 15th for his funny, smart, and original speech entitled “Petvolution.” His speech was hilarious, and touching at the same time. The audience was engaged and laughing; Steve was terrific! Thanks for doing our club proud!

Congratulations to the other participants! Great job to all!

Congratulations to Participants at our Club Speech Contest!

Our Club Contest was a huge success!

Olu gave a beautiful speech about naming culture in Nigeria, and the long (and sometimes funny) process of naming a child.

Steve gave a hilarious speech about the adventures of having children and the “Pet-volution” that comes with it.

Steve and JP delivered excellent and thoughtful evaluations to our target speaker, Andrew, who gave us some wonderful (and funny) travel tips.

Congratulations to STEVE and STEVE for winning the speaking and evaluation portions of the contest! Steve will be competing in both contests on March 15th at the Area Speech Contest. Come support Steve! Details below.

About Toastmasters International

There Were No Rules February 14th!

Our Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) madame Jennifer may have led us astray at our last meeting on Tuesday with her theme: BREAK ALL THE RULES!

Well, we certainly embraced that theme!  Crawling on the floor, eating while speaking, standing on chairs, and a disorganized room…what rules DIDN’T we break?

We do a backwards or “No Rules Day” periodically to practice our spontaneous skills, prepping us for when things go wrong and we have to roll with it….

…At least that’s our justification for the craziness!

Congratulations to JP and Melinda for Attending Their First TLI!

JP, Sergeant at Arms, and Melinda, VP of PR from the Timber Talkers Toastmasters club, attended their first TLI (Toastmasters Leadership Institute) held February 4th at the Al Kader Shrine Center in Wilsonville.

TLI is held twice a year and is an educational opportunity for Toastmasters’ club officers, and to all members as well. A one day event, TLI features officer training sessions to help officers be effective in carrying out their officer roles, and skill-building educational sessions.

Keynote speaker, Thomas Cox, delivered an energizing speech “The Only Universal Truth of Leadership.” After the Keynote speech, officers met in break-out sessions to learn more about their roles and discuss and work through challenges.

It’s Groundhog Day!

The Groundhog (Marmota monax) also known as Whistle Pig, Land Beaver, and Ground Squirrel, has inspired some interesting Table Topic responses at our meeting Tuesday!

Would you eat Punxsutawney Phil if he were being served on Groundhog day?

“Why of course! It would be a shame to waste the protein, especially in the eyes.”

Do you have a story you can share about a rodent?

“There was a family of mice living under our home. I have to admit, I was a sweet 17 year old girl who slept with a hammer!”

What kind of cute little animal would you like to be?

“I’d like to be a Groundhog, and have someone rub my belly until I fell asleep!”

Toastmasters is a great way to practice impromptu speaking in a creative and fun way in a supportive environment. Come visit our club to discover what Toastmasters is about!

Be Happy in the New Year!

Happiness is a common theme at our Toastmasters club. If you have ever visited our club, it’s not hard to see why! We are a happy group of people who love to laugh.

The theme for our first meeting of the year on 01/03/2017 was BE HAPPY IN THE NEW YEAR! Madame Toastmaster Olu gave us some simple, but profound instructions: Keep a list of things that make you happy. Every time you feel happy, write down what it is that is making you happy. Then, write a list of things you do everyday. Compare the two lists, and adjust accordingly!

Do you think having the confidence of a competent communicator would make you happy in the new year? Come visit our club and see what Toastmasters is all about! We meet every Tuesday from 12:00 – 1:00 PM at the location below. We love guests!
