I’m already sick of the holiday commercials. Radio stations are playing holiday music. I have a Turkey hang-over, and today it has rained, snowed, hailed, the sun shined, snowed again mixed with sleet. And Tuesday is our regular scheduled meeting at Noon at the Tigard Fire Station #50 on Walnut Street in Tigard. Hope to see you there!
Cock-A-Doodle Doo! Wait, that’s not it. CaCaw, CaCaw. Nope, that doesn’t sound right either. Moooooo. That’s definitely not it. Ummmmm, Got it!! Gobble Gobble! Happy Turkey Day everyone. No meeting this Tuesday due to the holiday week. See everyone in December.
Hah Ah Ah Ah Stayin’ Aliveeeeeee, Today, we put our verbal dancing shoes on and boogied down to some antiquated Disco tunes. We had a wonderful meeting at Fire Station #50 on Walnut Street in the Community Room. Our new home is spacious, with all of the amenities to make our meetings fun and successful. Verlan gave an informative speech on tips to keep the pounds off during the holidays. His speech used props. It demonstrated how props can help you stay on time and on topic while providing visual examples along with verbal directions. Using a calendar to track your specific goals for hikes and outdoor adventures is a tip I will be putting into use myself. Thanks Verlan!
We focused on our creative skills by telling a round table story that everyone participated in. Our Table Topics winner today was a first time visitor. Congratulations Steve! Today was Steve’s first visit with Timber Talkers. We also had a former member revisit today. Thank you for visiting today Hannes. Whether you are brand new to the group, or returning after a break, don’t be a stranger. Thanks to everyone for making todays’ meeting fun, filled with laughs and filled with some groovy tunes.
Fellow Timber Talkers and guests.
We are moving to a new home! First I would like to thank Lori and Welch Allyn for their generosity in sharing their facilities with us as we searched for a new meeting location. I also want to throw a shout out to all of the Timber Talkers who have diligently searched and successfully located our new meeting location.
Our new home is at the Tigard Fire Station #50 in the Community Room. The address is 12617 SW Walnut Street Tigard, OR 97223. Take a few minutes and visit their website at http://www.tvfr.com/. The Safety & Education tab is my favorite.
Our first meeting at the new location will be on Tuesday, November 4th at Noon. Please stop by and say hello as we get settled in.
It is my pleasure to summarize a very special announcement made during our meeting yesterday. For those of you that missed it, please congratulate our new officers for the 2014/2014 Timber Talkers “Fiscal Year”:
My congratulations go out to the members above who have taken upon themselves an opportunity for leadership within the club. Sergeant at Arms and VP of PR remain open. We could still definitely use another officer or two, and officer reassignments can be made mid-year, if your hesitation stems from being unsure of your location six months from now.
Oh, and bummer about our boys in the World Cup. Just a short four more years until the next time around!
Do you ever feel like this at the end of the day?
Thanks everyone for coming out to our first meeting at the Welch Allyn location. Lori Jackson did a dynamite job setting us up in one of many available conference rooms.
A few things to keep in mind for next week:
1.) A friendly receptionist will point you the right way, through a door, into a hallway and there we are
2.) We will potentially have representatives of the Welch Allyn HR department, so this will be a great opportunity to show them what Toastmasters is all about, and convince them that this will be a real onsite benefit for their own employees
See you next Tuesday!
Oh, and did you know that our very own Michael Lamb is an expert on shorts? “Sweat shorts,” specifically. Be sure to check out his website:
We just had our last meeting at our longtime Comcast building. The biggest thanks go to Lori Jackson – member extraordinaire – for securing us a room at the Welch Allyn building right around the corner.
Potential new members, if you have any trouble finding us, please don’t hesitate to contact us through our Gmail account. We’re still in the same general vicinity. Just keep track of us via the two pages mentioned in the previous paragraph.
